Anne-Marie Bailey

Hello and thanks for taking the time to check out my blog.

I’m Anne-Marie Bailey and I’m a post-graduate student studying Public Relations [PR] at the University of Sunderland.

I’m sure you’re wondering why PR and why put myself through yet another degree?

Well long-story-short, I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2009 after gaining a BA (Hons) degree in Linguistics and Phonetics.

During the course I completed modules in sociolinguistics, sparking an interest in communication theory and practise.

Knowing I wanted to explore this area further, I took a job in sales to help me fund further study.

Soon after joining the company I was asked to assist the Sales and Marketing Director in their communications activity, and my passion for PR was born.

So in September 2011, I sharpened my pencils and packed my note pad once more, and walked through the doors of the Sir Tom Cowie campus to start the CIPR accredited  MA PR degree.

And now here I am; half way through the course and preparing to find my first job as a PR practitioner.

When I’m not in the classroom, locking myself away in the library or doing work experience, I’m the MA PR CIPR course representative.

I attend lots of meetings with established practitioners and academics, discussing how the world of PR is changing and how the degree programme at the University of Sunderland should adapt to reflect this.

With all of this in mind, the purpose of Raising the Profile is not only to raise my own profile as an aspiring PR pro; the blog is a place to discuss issues affecting people in my shoes as we prepare to enter the working world of PR.
